Hello all and goodbye May!
Thoughts on May
May was actually a pretty chill month for the most part, I’m happy to say. I did have a flare up of my ongoing struggle with being a human with a physical body and ended up at my trusted periodontist again. When doctors start saying “You’re back? Again!?” you know it’s not ideal. I love my husband, but if I ever remarry, it will be a periodontist because I need access to 24/7 care at this point.
Speaking of my husband, who you all know as the Shipping Department, he is having shoulder surgery (outpatient) in the middle of the month. He’s fine <3 it’s either an old injury made recently worse or a new injury he got because he has a super high pain tolerance and can’t tell when he’s hurting himself (could never be me). Regardless, that means the June Collection will be slower to ship than normal because I will be (very slowly) packing everything. Long time readers will remember I don’t pack things because I move as a snail’s pace. If you are a regular collector and notice a change in how things are packed, let me know so I can tease him. Unless it’s worse and then we don’t need to let him know.
On the art front, I decided to experiment with a glow in the dark Periodic Table of Glue Babies this month. I actually love neon rainbow with a dark, navy blue, and I’m so happy with how this turned out. As always, I used the Culture Hustle glow powders and mixed them to create the gradient. The gradient transfers to the dark as well …
Though this photo isn’t the best because the pieces do best when “charged” in sunlight and I used a blacklight on these, but it still shows the resulting rainbow. Plus it glowed for over an hour, which was amazing! I’ve loved glow in the dark ever since I was a kid - which I think I’ve mentioned here before - and now I want to make one of these for my own room.
May Lovely Things
Here are some lovely things from May that I hope will give you a smile …
I love window displays and people who make props for a living can do some of the coolest stuff. Whenever I see a video like this I briefly convince myself I could make it and then I’m like “wait, no I can’t lol,” there are so many skills on display here!
Speaking of, my friend and I did paint her car when we were in High School and did it look like this? No, it looked absolutely horrid. The higher the skill, the easier it looks when someone demonstrates it. This car must brings so many people joy every day.
This Lego Animal Crossing build is incredible. I wish the real Lego AC sets had a little more teeth to them. Maybe this builder will inspire them! But maybe it’s best that they don’t so I can save my money.
Not digital, but physical art made with acrylic paint! Kazuki Takamatsu is an incredible artist, hands down. Also, when I was first starting out as a baby artist I left them a comment and they liked a bunch of my posts and it made me want to cry, I was so grateful.
Gorgeous eyeball tattoo that makes the wearer’s hand look like surreal fine China.
Speaking of, feast your eyes on Helena Hauss’ ceramics series “Hell Hath no Fury.”
This ceramic snail teapot is maybe one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen. Future heirloom quality.
These three friends dressed up as rats at Ren Fest to give people the plague. They truly look like they’re having the best time. This is solidly in the “I wish I had thought of that” territory. I’m not a Faire girly, but I had a friend in High School that was always in the cast and I’d spend a full day there each year to show my support. If I had thought of being a plague rat back then, I would have gone for two days.
If you’re looking for a slightly longer watch, I saw Phaun’s “Girlypop Pokemon Tier List” series recommended online randomly and fell in love. They’re so much fun to just keep on in the background. Plus this is still a relatively undiscovered channel so it’s always nice to find something that isn’t already super popular but is really great. It made me really nostalgic for Pokemon (I played from day dot through Sun/Moon), and I’m still fond of the handheld gen Pokemon designs. In case you’re wondering, my favorite is Chikorita!
June 2025 Lock Screen and Wallpaper
This month I thought it would be fun to go for a darker theme even though it’s summer. This closeup of one of the May pieces ended up being one of my favorite lock screens to date! These are also posted to my IG where I have a monthly Story highlight that I regularly update (it will be available all month), and Patreon where paid subscribers get a bonus wallpaper set each month.
Thank you for reading the May 2025 recap and I will see you again soon!
